The Nintendo Switch has been in news since last year. The main reason – the rumoured Nintendo Switch VR. Well, now we can confirm that the Nintendo Switch is actually getting VR. However, there’s a catch. We all expected Nintendo to go full guns-blazing and bring in a competitor to the other premium VR headsets in town.

With their experience in gaming, bringing in VR, could help them compete with the likes of PlayStationVR and open new avenues for the company. However, instead of building a VR headset that needs to be hooked up to a powerful PC and deliver stunning visuals in virtual reality, it’s going the other way round.

Nintendo is actually looking to build a VR system much similar to Google Cardboard. You heard that right! In fact, the new headset will come package as a DIY where users can assemble the cardboard to fit with their Nintendo Switch. For those who don’t know, the Nintendo Switch is an hybrid console that works in home console mode as well as on-the-go mode. The main console sports a 6.2 inches screen. It’s a LCD screen and support up to 720p (1280x720px).

That’s where it gets disappointing. We all know that to get the best visual experience in VR, you need high resolution content as well as high-res display screens. An LCD screen that only supports unto 720p doesn’t really cut it. For the most part, it will be stuck competing with other low end smartphone based VR headsets when talking about non-game VR content.

The console is modular in nature. Which means that the two joysticks on the either side of the screen are detachable. While that makes it possible to integrate with a VR headset, the visual quality of the content still remains an issue. The new VR headset is not called the Nintendo Switch VR headset as originally thought.

It’s called the Nintendo Labo VR headset. The standalone pack costs $40 as of now and comes with 2 expansion packs of $20 each. You can also buy the entire bundle for $80. The headset is part of Nintendo’s strategy to target the kid’s range of gaming. Which is why the headset has been developed with this kind of a design.

Unless, someone cracks how to watch VR porn on the switch or Nintendo allow third-party adult content to be streamed on its console, watching VR porn on Nintendo Switch is not possible.
