Xiaomi is well known for being the fastest expanding company in the world of smartphones. Their formula for success was pumping out cheap but high-quality phones suitable for the mass. This year, they want to get dominant in the VR marked as well. So the question stands: Can the newest Headset score with VR porn?

In 2016, Xiaomi released the Mi VR Play, a VR device for your smartphone. Well, I tried the 20$ headset at the time watching some VR porn videos. The uncomfortable head strap and the overall Immersion were OK, considering the low price but not good enough to be compared to the HTC Vive. I know there’s a big price difference but also in the quality. It just felt similar to the Google Cardboard with no integrated motion sensors and low latency.

Then in October of last year, the company announced their new Xiaomi VR Headset which is just called the Mi VR. We got very excited, and when it was first released a few days ago in China, we instantly ordered one for 70$ to examine if it got what it takes for our Xiaomi Mi VR porn experience.

We used the Mi 5 Smartphone as a Display for our VR porn videos. The 5.15″ Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixel (428 ppi) presents itself with a 103° FOV. The Headset is comfortable to wear, and the head strap is adjustable. You can also adjust the lenses if you got glasses. The quality and Immersion is great, the FOV was sufficient and the latency very fast.

Our main concerns and problems: The MIUI VR Store where you can download additional apps for the Mi VR is momentarily only available in Chinese and Indian. Secondly, the headset is currently not supporting any Smartphone with an OLED Display. This can lead to Low Persistence when your move your head too fast. Low Persistence is a blur effect occurring on the edges of your FOV.

A cheap and good headset for porn.

Specifications and Setup

Right now, the Mi VR is only compatible with the new Note 2, the Mi 5, Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus. Your own Xiaomi Smartphone is the Display. You just plug it into the USB port of the device. The Technique was very easy and fast to accomplish. The Headset features it’s own 9-axis tracking sensors. The fact that they are not positional sensors doesn’t matter with VR sex videos. The tracking works good, and even the slightest movements got recognized. The latency for the frame transition is 16 ms, and it felt very smoothly. We also liked the built-in sensor for when you dismount the Headset, going to standby to save Energy. It also comes with a controller similar to the Google Daydream controller which reacted fluently.

The Mi VR also comes with a controller similar to the one of the Google Daydream. The controller can recognize its orientation but not the exact position in the room which reminded us of Nintendo’s Wii controller. It’s comfortable to use it for Menus or Video navigation.

Conclusion – Xiaomi Mi VR porn worth it?

Overall our impressions of the Mi VR Headset is very solid. Thanks to the tracking sensors we got no Motion Sickness, the videos played smoothly, and the setup is easy. If you contemplate about getting a new smartphone, and maybe a Xiaomi we can recommend the Xiaomi Mi VR porn but not so much for gaming. Maybe when an OLED Smartphone is released, and Mi VR supported it will be a good bundle to start in the world of VR porn.
